Performing arts and drama subjects at Solent University, Southampton are among some of the best in the country, according to the latest National Student Survey (NSS)
An independent survey led by Ipsos MORI, NSS asks final year students studying at universities in the UK to feed back on their experiences as they get set for graduation. More than half a million students take part every year, giving them a platform to help shape the future delivery of universities.
Solent is proud to share that the newest results show the satisfaction of students studying in the performing arts department at the University places them in the top 25% of universities delivering these subjects across the UK in more than half of the themes for both subject areas.
Head of Art and Music at Solent, Brent Meheux, says:
"As a TEF Gold university, we are rightly very proud of the quality of our creative courses at Solent. The latest fantastic NSS results for our performance and acting courses really demonstrates the satisfaction our graduates have as a result."
Gathering opinions directly from those who have studied the subject for three years, Solent's rankings show they are in the top 25% of universities in the UK for student satisfaction in performing arts subjects in seven of the nine main themes, including mental wellbeing, academic support and assessment and feedback.
Subjects grouped under drama show students are having fantastic experiences, too. Of every institution in the UK that offers a course of this kind, Solent came first for student satisfaction in the themes of academic support and assessment and feedback.
The results show that students who graduated in July 2024 rate their experience highly, showcasing Solent as a go-to university for performance, acting and drama.
Solent's focus is on delivering future-ready teaching, and graduates in these areas have gone on to forge creative careers, from professional acting to teaching pursuits. Musical Theatre graduate, Troy Chessman, says:
"At Solent, I got to try new things, escape my comfort zone and make errors. I was gifted a vast bank of knowledge from lectures, and I left with a work ethic that gets me back into the audition room time and again."
Solent University, Southampton's results in the latest National Student Survey has been calculated by the University's Business Insights team, ranked against 131 UK Universities (usual league table providers).
