Re:So, Solent University, Southampton's retail initiative, invites the city's residents to join students and staff to swap their clothes and reduce waste during Fashion Revolution Week.
On Tuesday 23 April, Re:So, which puts creative students front and centre by selling a variety of unique wares made by both undergraduates and graduates, is hosting a clothes swap. The event runs 11am to 4pm at The Spark on East Park Terrace, and everyone is invited to bring a bag of unwanted clothing to swap.
In collaboration with John Lewis Southampton, Re:So will donate leftover clothes from the day to the retailer's FashionCycle scheme in a joint effort to reduce landfill and promote environmental approaches to clothing and style.
Items given to John Lewis will ensure pre-loved items are either resold or recycled, extending the life of clothing and prioritising sustainability in retail. The FashionCycle scheme is open to My John Lewis members, with a £5 reward offered to individuals who donate five or more items in store.
Tom Crome, Deputy Store Manager at John Lewis Southampton, says:
"As part of our commitment to sustainability, we are happy to collaborate with Solent University to encourage recycling. Both fashion and beauty recycling rewards for My John Lewis members are now amongst the most popular."
Re:So has a permanent shop in The Spark, and regularly has a presence at pop-up events and makers markets around the region to promote and sell products made by talented students. The initiative delivers 3,000 hours of work-based learning a year, aiming to offer a springboard for success for burgeoning creatives.
To get involved, simply come along to The Spark on East Park Terrace on Tuesday 23 April with your pre-loved clothes and join in.
