Creative students have the opportunity to flex their entrepreneurial muscles alongside some of retails big players as Re:So - a retail initiative set up by Solent University, Southampton for its students - opens its doors in the SOOK Space at Westquay shopping centre, 26 to 30 October.
Benefitting a variety of different courses, including fashion management and graphic design, the pop-up signals the start of an exciting new era for Re:So - a unique initiative that empowers students to pursue their creativity with an entrepreneurial mindset.
This special event, which sees Re:So occupying a shop in Westquay for the first time, marks the start of the initiative's move to a community-focused approach which will see them at many different events across the region. Re:So Lead, Lesley Taylor, says:
"This is an exciting time for Re:So. Creating and selling your own products is a competitive market, but Re:So gives our students a head-start by offering a space for them to sell their items and gain important experience that will aid them in their future careers.
"By moving to a model that prioritises taking part in events around the south of England, Re:So will gain bigger and better visibility which puts student and graduate makers right in front of the public. Our pop-up in Westquay is a great way to signal our new approach, and we hope that many visitors will stop by and meet our team to find out more."
Graduate Intern, Shyanne Searley, says: "Re:So is an amazing opportunity for new and upcoming artists to test the waters in product design and selling in a retail environment.
"I have learned invaluable skills and knowledge and been given the space to grow my own brand and business. I feel so much more confident and well-rounded as professional."
Graduate Intern, Rosie Pearson, says: "I have received fantastic support from Solent, and I can't thank them enough. As an intern, I'm learning lots of different skills, from managing events and launching my own stock, to training staff and leading a team. I am fortunate to be working with lovely people and have gained some great experience."
