Solent University, Southampton is offering its full support to third year Prosthetics and Special Effects Design student, Ella Freer, who is currently appearing in the sixth season of BBC Three's popular reality competition, Glow Up.
Ella is one of eight talented makeup artists (MUA) to compete for the title of Britain's Next Make-Up Star as she tackles weekly challenges under the watchful eye of judges Val Garland and Dominic Skinner.
As a Prosthetics and Special Effects Design student at Solent, Ella has spent the last three years honing her craft as a multi-skilled MUA, using the latest technique guided by a team of expert lecturers with decades of experience under their belt.
Ella, who is originally from Leicestershire, has been living and studying in Southampton for the last three years. She says:
"Starting out, I didn't feel confident enough in my skillset to apply for the show, but since using the University's facilities, I've been able to enhance my skills and become a better makeup artist. Solent has provided me with skills in a variety of area, but using the studio spaces to capture high-quality images of my work has been the most beneficial and has significantly improved my work."
As a popular competition known for amazing looks and kick-starting the careers of MUAs, Ella's appearance on Glow Up is an incredible opportunity. Donna Bevan, Course Leader BA Prosthetics and Special Effects Design, alongside BA Makeup and Hair Design and MA Makeup and Hair Design Futures, says:
"We were so excited when we found out Ella would be appearing on Glow Up, knowing it would be an incredible opportunity for her to demonstrate her amazing artistry to such a wide audience. We are tuning in every week, keen to see her progress, and we can't wait to see what Ella does when she graduates."
