4 December 2024 • by Solent press team

Southampton Solent University will welcome members of the creative industries to campus in the new year, exploring growth and talent alongside Creative Network South.

Narrating Creative Regions: Leveraging Strategic Partnerships, Collaborations, and Networks is taking place on Friday 17 January at Solent’s trademark building, The Spark.

The event invites professionals across a variety of sectors – from local government to the arts – to discuss how universities can work in partnership with creative organisations to drive economic growth and support the development of regional talent.

Dr Roy Hanney, Associate Professor at Solent University, says:

“This symposium is an exciting opportunity to explore how regional partnerships can stimulate economic growth and create opportunities for new talent. By sharing best practices and forging new collaborations, we aim to build a more integrated and resilient creative ecosystem in our region.”

Solent is one of 18 partners of Creative Network South, a collective of local authorities, universities and businesses that work together to enhance the region’s creative industries. With industry connections and cutting-edge facilities, Solent is equipping its students with the skills they need to thrive creatively, while developing the city’s cultural offering through projects that reach communities and organisations.

January’s Narrating Creative Regions welcomes leaders to share their expertise in this area. Dom Jinks, Head of Creative Industries and Economy at the University of Exeter will begin the day by showcasing how higher education can take the lead when it comes to cultural and creative designations. Later, representatives from the Centre for the Creative Economy at Cardiff University, Carys Bradley-Roberts and Laura Sinclair, will share how they have worked with the private and public sector, as well as education partners and industry, to drive economic growth and develop talent.

The event will finish with an interactive workshop exploring how to cultivate meaningful collaboration between creative and cultural sectors, and universities.

Professionals with a keen interest in working collaboratively to make a difference to the creative economy of the region are invited to attend this event, which brings people together to explore opportunities and inspire growth.

Narrating Creative Regions takes place on Friday 17 January, 12.30 to 4pm. Find out more, and book a free ticket, at www.eventbrite.com/e/narrating-creative-regions-half-day-symposium-tickets-1057188151219.
