Our music courses recently staged their annual 'Anthems' event - a celebration of some of the greatest songs of all time performed by students, alumni, staff and friends of the University.
The event featured 17 selected bands and artists, each performing an 'Anthemic' song, ranging from Whitney Houston to Rage Against the Machine, and everything in between.
“The Anthems gig is always a highlight of the academic calendar and showcases the wealth and diversity of talent that we have amongst the students here at Solent. Cross-course collaboration is central to the event and provides the opportunity for students to work alongside each other, gaining invaluable experience and establishing their own network of like-minded creatives and have a great time whilst doing so", says Esther Keappock, Senior Lecturer in Popular Music.
Students and staff from across the University collaborated on this public event, performing to a sold-out crowd with over twenty crew members from the Live Event Technology, Popular Music Production, Fashion, Film courses and the Sonar Events team involved in running sound, staging, lights, photography, and video-streaming.
"The mix of courses and societies collaborating to technically and artistically run the show is a tribute to the students' focus and determination; building a show from scratch within a day. Albeit a largely extracurricular event, students learn so much working with one another, with guidance from experienced staff if needed. It's a great thing to be a part of and long may it continue!” Says Neil Brooming, Lecturer in Live Sound Technology.
