Fixed date taster days

We’re excited to share our on-campus taster days, where your Year 12/13 and Level 3 students can explore our industry-ready courses, meet experienced professionals, and get hands-on in state-of-the-art facilities like our virtual production stage, nursing wards, TV studios, and music suites. They’ll also hear from expert speakers, including our alumni.

CIOB student construction challenge

9 January 2025

Our annual Student Construction challenge with the Chartered Institute of Building is returning. Student teams will be presented with a live brief and asked to create their concept designs in our workshops, supported by our industry professionals. During the presentations, they will receive feedback by our industry leaders, and winners will receive a prize and work for their professional portfolio. 

During the day, they will get the opportunity to visit our Industry fair and network with other students, alumni and professionals. 

Creative media taster day

16 January 2025

Do you have students interested in Creative Media, but not sure of which pathway to choose? This day is perfect for them. With sessions ranging from Pirate Podcasting, Screenwriting for Sci-Fi and Construction and Character Design, there will be something for everyone. Run by our industry professional, the day aims to provide students with active group working, and real work they can include in their professional portfolios. They will be able to tour our facilities including our brand-new VP stage, newsrooms, film and media production suites and gaming rooms.

Sport and health taster days

14 January 2025
6 and 8 May 2025
10 and 12 June 2025

The Department of Sport and Health welcomes students keen to explore the many options Solent has to offer to those considering higher education as their next step. 

Our Sports Complex offers students the opportunity to have hands-on experience using industry grade facilities. If your students are interested in coaching or fitness, we have our high-performance sports hall and strength and conditioning high-performance gym. 

Our purpose-built biomechanics laboratory boasts a range of specialised equipment, including a state-of-the-art Vicon 3D motion capture system that allows athletes' movements to be recorded and analysed - perfect for students interested in exercise science and therapy. And our BASES-accredited physiology lab allows students to explore latest equipment used for physiological and biomechanical assessment.

Your learners will come away from these sessions engaged and excited to explore their higher education opportunities.

Art and photography competition

Submission date: 31 January 2025
Viewing and prize-giving: 19 March 2025

Our art and photography competition is now open for 2025 entries.

Students from sixth form and further education colleges across the South are invited to submit entries for the competition in the form of 2D or 3D works.

Shortlisted works will be exhibited in shipping containers in Southampton's Guildhall Square in Spring 2025.

Psychology taster day

23 June 2025

During our psychology taster day, students will have the chance to engage in sessions from our academics covering various psychology related topics, which will support their current learning and give them an insight into what it is like to study this fascinating subject at university.

Colleges are invited to bring a group of their students to attend this event, which will include:

  • Interactive lectures in psychology
    • The sessions will support students with their current learning
    • A chance to ask questions of academics and current students

CSI Solent

Coming in 2025

This exciting event will include three subject sessions: criminology, psychology and law. Students will explore a criminal situation and work together to develop their knowledge using evidence, forensics, the Solent Law court and crime scene. 

The aim of this day is to introduce studying these subjects at university. Students will develop their knowledge in these areas, while having a fun, engaging, and interactive day.
