James Hardy

Biography

James has been working in mental health care since 2004. He is a registered mental health nurse, having qualified in 2009 and a registered cognitive behavioural therapist, specialising in a range of therapies since 2013. James holds a registration for the NMC and the BABCP and has received his qualifications as a mentor and as a supervisor.

He has previously worked as a mental health nurse across the age continuum, from children and young adults with mental health and physical health difficulties, to older persons mental health with individuals with organic and functional problems.

As a cognitive behavioural therapist, James worked for a local Improved Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) service, delivering therapies for anxiety and depression for adults before moving to Solent University in 2018 to help set up the now Therapy and Mental Health Team, delivering therapies from single session therapy (SST) to cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) to students who may be experiencing a range of difficulties with their mental health and wellbeing.

Since January 2021, James has been working as a lecturer on the BSc (Hons) Adult Nursing Practice course and the FdSc Health Care Health Play Specialist course, delivering modules and teaching across a variety of other modules.

Since September 2022, he has been working as a lecturer on the Foundation Degree in Health and Social Care and supporting the BSc (Hons) Mental Health Nursing Course and the FdSc Health Care Health Play Specialist courses.

James completed his PgC Learning and Teaching in Higher Education in 2022. He has experience of teaching across different professions, as well as leading group therapy sessions. It has always been a passion of his to teach and help others reach their full potential and flourish as a person and as a professional.
