May is a lecturer in HR/OB at Solent University. Previously, she was a senior lecturer in human resource management at LSBU Business School. She has extensive experience teaching at postgraduate level in the areas of HRM and organisational behaviour.
May is a Chartered Fellow CIPD; her role is to hold a strategic position and demonstrate expertise in the key areas of HR to promote and achieve organisational success. She is an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (AFHEA) and completed a PG-CHE from Falmouth University. She has completed the Cross-Cultural Management program, Tokyo, JAPAN (Association for Overseas Technical Scholarship Alumni (AOTS) and was also selected to participate in the Master Class for Global Cross-Cultural Management (GCCM) in 2011 and 2016, provided by Professor Hofstede and the team at Maastricht University. She is an accredited lecturer in intercultural management by Hofstede Insights and is also a cross-cultural trainer.
May's research specialism is related to cross-cultural management. Her main research interests are related to intercultural management, such as international business negotiation, communication across culture, acculturation, global teamwork, cross-cultural communication, global leadership, global team, and cultural competencies.
May has completed a research project, “Developing the cross-cultural skills of graduates in response to the needs of the European enterprise.” The project's outcome will be an open-source 'Cross-cultural Competencies and Skills Development Toolkit". Five higher education institutions have participated in this study: University of Worcester (Project lead - UK), London South Bank University (UK), UC Leuven-Limburg (Belgium), Halmstad University (Sweden), and Bursa Uludağ University (Turkey).
May is also a director of research and academic relations at the Society for Intercultural Educators, Trainers, and Researchers (SIETAR UK).
