Rachel has been a journalist and editor for national news and magazine publications for more than 20 years. She has a portfolio that includes fashion, lifestyle, celebrity, news and beauty for a wide range of titles including Glamour Magazine, Fabulous, Real Magazine and Weddings, to name just a few. She has also written for many of the UK's national newspapers and has travelled widely interviewing major names in the world of politics, fashion and entertainment.
Alongside her lecturing, Rachel continues to work in the industry on both consumer and contract titles and works as a consultant to new and existing fashion and lifestyle brands.
At Solent in 2019, Rachel was awarded the Excellence in Teaching award and was awarded her Senior Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy.
She is editor-in-chief of Carbon magazine, a student-led industry-standard art and fashion publication giving students from the start of the undergraduate journey a taste of life in the media industry and has previously launched other real-world learning projects including The Isle of Wight Festival magazine, Isla; Empire Cinema’s in house magazine, Pulse; Hype Magazine; and Solent Splash - an initiative labelled 'Educational Gold' by the Periodical Publishers Association (PPA).
Her research interests lie in learning and teaching and the development of innovative and inclusive pedagogic practices that embrace Solent's widening participation ethos.
Rachel's research interests include the engagement of students and students as co-creators.
