Psychology at Solent

You have the aptitude for a career in psychology and you’re keen to learn the skills for the job. With great employment prospects, you’re making a good call.

The NHS, social services, police force and probation services are all major employers of psychology graduates.

You’ll also find openings in community, not-for-profit and private enterprises, in areas ranging from sport and wellbeing promotion to performance support for athletes.

If you’re interested in understanding what causes certain elements of human behaviour, you can explore how psychology can be applied in different settings, from therapy to solving crimes or helping athletes achieve their best.

As a psychology student you can explore how people behave and interact, while analysing the thoughts and feelings that underlie specific behaviours. At Solent you can study key areas of psychological study including education, crime, sport and exercise, social behaviours, therapy and counselling.

Accreditation by the British Psychology Society and the Nursing and Midwifery Council emphasises the practical application of psychology, with real-world assessments integrated throughout. Students also have the option to undertake work experience as part of their studies, and tailored modules reflect the wide range of careers that are open to graduates.

Our academic team has vast industry and teaching experience, and thanks to our close industry links, your teaching will always be guided by research-informed knowledge. This hands-on training eventually leads to a final applied psychology project, acting as the perfect springboard into graduate employment or further study.

Psychology students will hear from a range of guest speakers in areas ranging from sleep research and police advocacy to counselling and specialist teaching, while charities and private companies provide mentoring, training and live briefs for specific units.
