If you're thinking about P.E. (Physical Education), as a career, I think it's a really good career to get into because you're working with children all the time which means that every day is different - it can be a real challenge. I think it's a really good thing to see children develop over time and kind of help them in that development in that journey through them becoming just an adult and also for their education.
Senior Lecturer of PE and Child Development, William Zoppellini is stood in the Spark Building at Solent University talking to camera. Throughout are cutaways of the primary school children taking part in PE.

There's a lot of different subject areas that you cover on the course and having people that have like, a vast array of knowledge and expertise in those different areas, is very helpful and you can go to them with any questions or ideas and they're always going to give you really positive honest feedback that's going to help you learn.

I think at Solent the number one thing that sets it apart is the practical experience that the students get. Every semester they're either teaching their peers in the Sports Complex or on the Solent campus and upskilling themselves practically, or they're out at a school gaining experience on a placement and teaching P.E classes every week so I really think that that is the foundation of the course that sets it apart.

The Spark's a really nice building to kind of, do all our lectures and seminars, so it's really good facilities.

There's a massive sports complex just very new it's very up-to-date, there's lots of different equipment in there, full-size pitches - it's a great place to learn and you've got all the facilities you need to help you.

Text appears on the screen; 'What placements have you done so far?'
2:12:20
So I've done one placement in a school for a week and then we've been doing some coaching at a local school as well, for six weeks and that experience has really helped us like, I know personally for myself like, growth and confidence in actually going out into the world instead of just like, just staying in the lectures and staying in uni it's given us that like, real world experience to go out and get involved.

I've done two placements and they've both been in different levels of schooling - so my first placement was in secondary school, my second one was in a primary school. Going into that environment and sort of learning from those kids and seeing the different varieties of kids you get in there - yeah it's a great experience and just a different bit of learning really.

Text appears on the screen; 'What other opportunities are there for students?'
2:58:08
On top of the placements and the kind of exposure to the the real world environment in education and there's also some additional qualifications that they get. So we partner with several organisations one of them is First for Sport and we embed things like a level two multi-skills qualification and a level three like, advanced teaching qualification for supporting the delivery of P.E. and they're all endorsed by the association for physical education the governing body. So I think that and between the practical experience and the additional awards, they come out with a lot more than kind of just a degree.
