Solent secures British Computing Society Academic Accreditation for another five years

12 April 2024

Solent's computing courses receive BCS accreditation, reflecting the quality of the skills and knowledge students receive ready for industry.

We are pleased to announce that we have successfully secured British Computing Society – the Chartered Institute for IT (BCS) accreditation for our computing courses for another five years. This is awarded to universities that have met the strict BCS standards in recognition of the quality of their computing courses. It assures both students and employers alike, that our courses meet the skills and knowledge required by industry.

Sarah Radif, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Science and Engineering, said “We are delighted to secure BCS accreditation for all our undergraduate computing courses for another five years. At Solent, we strive to equip our students with the knowledge and real-world skills that will make them stand out in the competitive job market. This independent recognition from the professional body is proof of the quality of teaching, learning and opportunities we provide for our students. We are particularly proud of the commendations we received from the accreditation panel including the opportunities provided to final-year students through the Industrial Consulting Project, the encouragement to reflect on the skills they have developed at the end of each module in order to enhance their CV and the ability for students to undertake professional qualifications such as CISCO and Certified Ethical Hacker alongside their degree.”

She added, “Coming on top of our recent triple Gold Teaching Excellent Framework (TEF) award, this is a testimony to the hard work of the academic staff and their dedication to creating an excellent learning environment where students can flourish, thrive and enjoy a successful career.”

Being BCS accredited is an important part of achieving Chartered IT Professional (CITP) status. As a founding signatory to the Seoul Accord, BCS accreditation is aligned to international standards. This mutual recognition of academic qualifications benefits directly graduates of accredited degrees as these will be recognised automatically by all the other signatories including, ABET (USA), the Australian Computer Society and the Canadian Information Processing Society.

Further information on our BCS Accredited degree courses can be found on our course listing.
