 As a signatory of the UK Armed Forces Covenant, Solent University has pledged that it will support armed service leavers and members of the wider armed forces community - particularly as they seek to resettle into civilian life and retrain for a new career. Here' you will find more information about the support available to armed service members here at Solent University.

Funding for armed service leavers

Financing higher education courses isn't always straightforward. That's why our team of student funding advisers are on hand to help you find the best way to finance your studies. The student finance team are available on 023 8201 5200 or via email at student.funding@solent.ac.uk.

You can also visit them in person during term time in the Student Hub (TS114):

  • Monday to Thursday: 9am - 4.30pm
  • Friday: 9am - 4pm

Please note: times may vary in the event of staff absence and during the holidays.

If you are currently serving in the armed forces or have left within the last five years, you may be able to partially fund your course through the Enhanced Learning Credits scheme. You can use the Enhanced Learning Credits you built up during your time in the armed forces to pay for eligible courses at Solent University or Warsash Maritime School.

Students studying Solent University have access to a dedicated careers advice and employability service - Solent Careers. The team are committed to getting students into great careers by offering impartial information, advice and guidance to support you and help you achieve your ambitions.

You can contact Solent Careers even if you haven't yet enrolled at Solent. Get in touch using careers@solent.ac.uk to find out how your choice of course could support your future career.

Academic support

During your service you will have learnt a wide range of specialist skills and proficiencies. Despite this, you may find that when you arrive at university you are asked to do things that you have never done before. Our study skills and academic support services (Succeed@Solent) will be available throughout the duration of your course, offering advice and one-to-one support on a range of topics including:

  • Public speaking and presentation
  • English language skills
  • Academic research
  • Essay writing and referencing
  • Revision techniques.
