By the end of this module you will be able to demonstrate an enhanced understanding of the complex factors that contribute to changes in physiological and psychological responses within children as they move through childhood into adulthood, including examining issues of growth, maturation, physical, cognitive and emotional development across children and young people.
How do we respond to stress, pressure, and other’s expectations? How do we communicate with our peers, tutors, and employers? How do we identify areas in need of work, and how do we know if we are ready to grow and develop? You will explore several areas of concern: values & attitudes, emotions & behaviour, and relationships & communication. This is important because central to a clinician’s safe practice is the art of self-reflection: the ability to notice one’s internal and behavioural reactions to events, their consequences for the self and others around them, and how to change one’s attitudes and behaviours into evidence-based, measured, effective, and empathic responses, to meet the pressures and demands of their personal and professional lives.
You will have come to university with a desire to develop your study skills and further your knowledge within your particular area of study. This module will introduce you to key research and study skills required to successfully achieve this. You will be challenged to explore your existing ideas and encouraged to seek out new information in order to develop your understanding of knowledge generation. This module is integral to your course studies and it will help prepare you for your ‘research journey’ at university. It aims to ignite a research and study spark in you, and inspire you to want to find out more.
In this module you will be introduced to a range of social concepts in order to identify a range of social issues and increase your awareness of how these social issues can exist within education and sport/leisure spaces. You will study social concepts such as social class, race and ethnicity, sex and gender, and disability, and how social issues affect the accessibility for specific social groups in education and sport/leisure settings.
During this module, you will explore relevant and appropriate theory related to how the school environment can promote equality, diversity and inclusion to allow all children to learn. You will explore a deeper understanding of the educational challenges within a contemporary world, identifying core values in the delivery of education, and the construction of knowledge and recognition for education in a 21st Century society. The education environment is a vast and complicated area and you will need to have an in-depth understanding of all aspects associated with this dynamic work place, including: the National Curriculum (NC); Pedagogical Theories; Policy Making; Administrative Duties and Regulatory Requirements. As such, this module will encourage you to question your own knowledge and experiences regarding equality, diversity and inclusion within the world of education, and you will begin to develop an evidence base for the meaning of an effective educational system for lifelong learning.
In this module you will learn about the sociology of work, exploring policies which can improve or exacerbate work conditions and changing the work-life balance, analysing themes such as the gender pay-gap, discrimination linked to disability, race and ethnicity, age, and other work-related topics.
