Solent’s brand-new Open House celebrates the fantastic work of Solent University students and staff in a month-long season of events and activities that are open to the public.
From Wednesday 29 May to Saturday 29 June, we're offering an eclectic and vibrant programme of free events showcasing the rich variety of our courses and the amazing projects of our final year students in their graduate shows.
This year’s event has something for everyone, from our broad range of creative arts – including film, media, musical theatre, fine art, photography, fashion, interior design, hair and make-up design, and prosthetics and special effects – to the Business and Law Department Student Conference, the maritime simulation centre, and staff talks on photography, Agatha Christie’s Miss Marple, and female entrepreneurship in business.

Degree shows
The end-of-year degree shows showcase a whole range of stunning work from students within the Department of Art and Music, the Department of Film and Media, and the Department of Science and Engineering.
There will be a mixture of work from students finishing their degrees in fine art, fashion design, make-up and hair design, architecture, photography, and interior design, to only name a few.

Location: Stage Door, Southampton
Presenting a brand-new musical Suffragettes in Trousers, written and produced by Solent University third year performance students. And a cabaret showcase of well-known musical theatre songs.
Suffragettes in Trousers follows the journey of Albert Jeffries, a struggling journalist in need of a good story to sell. When he is assigned to write an article on the suffrage movement, Albert discovers the untold stories of five suffragettes. But whose story does he decide to publish?

Photography as a visual and intellectual language of research

Join us for an in-conversation event in how Solent University's creative practice research in photography is pioneering in helping us think through wider cultural, societal and environmental issues.
An evening with Miss Marple
Date: 14 June, 4-6pm
Location: LT1 - Andrews Building (above Costa Coffee)
Dr Mark Aldridge explores the behind-the-scenes story of the Miss Marple films, starring Margaret Rutherford, before a screening of Murder at the Gallop. Drawing on new research undertaken for his forthcoming book, Agatha Christie's Marple, Mark will share what Agatha Christie herself thought about the films and explore the battles over Miss Marple’s characterisation, as well as discussing the legacy of the films.
A workshop on female entrepreneurship and stakeholder engagement

Join us at this workshop where Dr Whysnianti Basuki, Associate Professor in Business, will share her expertise in fostering meaningful collaborative partnerships to progress her research to the next level.

The Solent Learning, Teaching, and Research (SLTR) Conference is a day of practice-sharing, discussions, and inspiration centred around 'Higher Education for Everyone - good practices in inclusivity in learning, teaching, and research'.
