Business, marketing and finance

Your classes are generally timetabled for two to three days a week. Outside of this time, you will be working on and completing your directed and guided learning activities.

Our courses are currently not designed for part-time delivery. All classes are delivered on campus and supported by a wealth of materials in our virtual learning environment.

Many of Solent's business courses are accredited by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI). This means you can graduate with an additional CMI Level 5 Management and Leadership qualification, boosting your employability and giving you an edge in the job market.

We're committed to equipping you with the skills and experience you need to succeed in the competitive job market. Across our course portfolio, we have embedded professional practice modules to support you to successfully take up work placement opportunities and to confidently enter the graduate market.

In semester two of your second year on our business management degrees, you can either use your part-time work to gain 20 university credits or undertake a work placement for the term to gain 60 university credits.

In semester two of your second year on the BSc (Hons) Accountancy and Finance degree, you can either use your part-time work to gain 20 university credits or undertake one of our option modules.

We will also guide you to develop your professional profile and personal brand to enhance your employability alongside our networking events where you will connect directly with employers. Each module contributes to your professional growth, with outputs directly applicable to your CV. Our 'Living CV' programme ensures you're always ready to showcase your skills and achievements.

You'll be assessed primarily through coursework, including reports, essays, and presentations. In your second year, you'll also have one exam and an in-class test for the UK Financial Systems module, which is an option on the BSc (Hons) Business Management and a core module on the BSc (Hons) Business Management with Finance.

On the BSc (Hons) Accountancy and Finance, you’ll engage in a few different assessments which are a mixture of course work, reports, presentations, debates, in class tests and examinations. The examinations are a requirement of the professional bodies who provide exemptions for successful completion.

You can make the decision on which pathway to follow during your first year. The first year is common to all pathways, giving you a broad foundation in business management. In your second year, you will be able to either chose your options for the second year or transfer onto one of our specialised pathways.
